Indigenous people living downstream from the tar sands explain in their own words why they are saying enough is enough. Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation challenges Shell’s new tar sands mine and expansion.

Today at 5 pm, hereditary chief WEC’KINEM (Eric Pelkey), with support from Songhees and the WSÁNEĆ nations, will lead an action to reclaim the traditional name of PKOLS (formerly known as Mt. Douglas). Come to the park, get involved, be part of something. Hope to see you there.

Kick the Shell out of Oxford University

May 9th 2013 saw the launch of a new partnership between Oxford University and Shell, including the opening of a new Shell Laboratory in the Earth Sciences department. Why shouldn’t one of the largest oil companies in the world monitor how they are destroying our planet. No conflict of interest here. Thankfully ! this has sparked controversy, including a letter to the Guardian signed by 75 Oxford staff, students and alumni.

I believe that if all Canadians were aware of the colossal negative impacts the tar sands have on our environment, economy, and society expansion would not be so rapid, maybe stop altogether. Of course I have always been a ‘glass 1/2 full’ kinda person.

Here is an awesome new website and source of information.

Canada needs a reality check on oil sands expansion.
